Biscuits & Battlefields

I've been spending the holiday visiting kin-folk and exploring Civil War battlefields deep in the durty-durty of Mississippi. Freeways with 75mph speed limits, cannons on the side of the road facing North, purple alligator skin shoes, history deeper than that of California, bowl haircuts, pleated khaki pants, David Banner, monuments commemorating bloody battles of conviction, sideways stares at my "tight" pants and Vans, river-boat casinos, gravy for every meal and on everything, accents that defy and confirm stereotypes, hearing "Yankees" in a sentence that has nothing to do with baseball, tradition, the nicest people you'll ever meet, logging trucks and sweet tea.

X: GT40 & MAKR

Why? Because there aren't a whole lot of reasons why not. Simply two things I like right now - in one place. Maybe you feel they clash, or perhaps they hold hands, but as far as I'm concerned, the Shelby 85th commemorative GT40 and pieces by MAKR are cut from the same cloth. Fabric woven from class, attention to detail and done so by hands motivated by a common ethos of "make what you love - love what you make."

Vanity

I'm not a big VW bus fan, but when I came across these illustrations from an original dealer's book, showcasing a bunch of "shop vans," I became one. I'll admit I'm more into the hand-painted type, colors and layouts more than the shape of the vehicle itself, but non the less, these are pretty rad to look at. Cartype is a great site devoted to anything having to do with the automobile industry and it's typography. Go get on it.

Good Things

Clothes, cars, bags and bikes. New, old, canvas, leather and metal. Things I like, things I want, things that inspire me and even a few things I need.
